A study on morphological discrimination in kinds of Cinnamomi Cortex
Kim In-Rak

Abstract
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to clarify the botanical origin of Cinnamomi cortex.
Methods : Studied on the morphological and anatomical characteristics of Cinnmomum species on Korean and Chinese markets.
Results : The Cinnamomi leaf from Vietnam was 12-25(35)cm long, 3.5-9.3(13)cm wide, and from Indonesia was 5-llcm long, 2-3.5cm wide.
In the Cinnamomi cortex from Vietnam and China, we can find pericycle stone cells in groups arranged in an interupted ring, accompanied by fibre bundles at outer side, and minute needle crystals of calcium oxalate, but cannot find in Indonesian Cinnamomi cortex.
Conclusions : 1) It was made clear that Cinnamomi cortex from Vietnam and China was derived from Cinnamomum mssia, but from Indonesia was not derived from C. mssia.
2) The origin of Cinnamomi cortex in The Korean Pharmacopeia Eighth Edition needs to change into Cinnamomum msia Blume.
